The cute and horrific storytelling game Puppetland gets a new edition

Arc Dream Publishing announced this week that their new expanded edition of the Puppetland role-playing game is available online at RPGNow with the print version hitting stores in September. This will be the third incarnation of Puppetland with previous versions being published online by author John Scott Tynes and in a 21-page paperback by Hogshead Publishing. This new edition is a 158-page full color hardback, with full-page paintings by Samuel Araya and new illustrations by Hollie Mengert and Heather Hudson to go with classic Puppetland illustrations by Raven Mimura. It features expanded and clarified rules and suggestions for play, a charmingly creepy new storybook about the murder of the Maker of All Puppets, an essay about the history of the game and the role of puppets in the author’s life, and 16 new scenarios by John Scott Tynes, Arnold Cassel, Fred Hicks, Ross Payton, Jason Morningstar, Matt Forbeck, Kenneth Hite, James Wallis, Gareth Ryder-Hanrahan, and Arinn Dembo.

Distributors and retailers interested in the print version should contact Studio 2 Publishing or check out the September issue of Game Trade Magazine.

Lead role for the Dungeons & Dragons movie is close to be chosen

Ansel Elgort, from The Fault in our Stars and Divergent is in final negotiations to be the lead role in the Warner Bros. produced upcoming Dungeons & Dragons feature film, which already has a director in Rob Letterman from Goosebumps and a script by David Leslie Johnson, who also wrote Wrath of the Titans and the upcoming Aquaman movie.

Elgort’s character will likely be a warrior and leader of a band of adventures seeking fame and fortune.

With Warners investing a lot in reinvigorating the franchise on the big screen, I wouldn’t expect anything less vanilla than that, but will the upcoming D&D movie be able to best D&D 2 or D&D 3? That remains to be seen.

The first edition of Apocalypse World is now free

Vincent Baker has announced on the Kickstarter for Apocalypse World 2nd Edition that his games’ first edition PDFs are available free of charge at apocalypse-world.com

Apocalypse World is a cinematic post-apocalyptic roleplaying game about survival and relationships, with only an implied setting that is fleshed out by the players in the course of character creation. Each playbook involves and provides inspiration for certain details of the setting, with the characters’ shared history being also determined in the course of character generation.

If you haven’t tried this award winning game before, now it’s your change. The game engine might be familiar to you if you played Dungeon World, Uncharted Worlds, Monsterhearts, or Urban Shadows. And these are only some of the games powered by Apocalypse World’s system.

An awesome control experience awaits you, as well as easier access to the wonderful world of space exploration, where even exploding is a lot of fun.”
