Hello! It’s the Thursday of the 8th of December, 2016. Welcome to the Gamerati News Update. Here are four news from tabletop games and gaming.

Chaosium is looking for Game Masters for their 2017 conventions

Chaosium, the publisher of Call of Cthulhu and other iconic RPGs, will be at five conventions in 2017. These are OrcaCon, GameStorm, UK Games Expo, Origins, and GenCon Indy.

If you GM for them at OrcaCon or GameStorm for a total of 12 hours, Chaosium will get you a free badge to the convention, a Chaosium convention gift pack, and the chance to run their new 2017 Call of Cthulhu RPG demos.

Volunteer GMs at UK Games Expo will get a series of incentives that go from badges to food vouchers and even accommodation for five or more four-hour sessions.

The details for Origins Game Fair are still being worked out, but you’re guaranteed a badge to the convention and a gift bag for 12 hours of volunteering.

For GenCon, they need lots of GMs. Chaosium wants to run more than 50 hours of games at up to twelve tables, which means 42 GMs or more. So if you have 12 hours to spare GMing for them, they’ll get you a convention badge and enter you to win prizes at Chaosium’s Insanity 500.

Deadlines for volunteering are 16 December for OrcaCon, 30 January for GameStorm, 31 March for UKGE, 14 April for Origins, and 2 June for GenCon.

Level 99 Games is releasing not one, but two games next month

In Anansi and the Box of Stories, players take on the roles of archetypal animals in a trick-taking game where you can use your animal cunning and abilities to turn the tricks in your favor. Each round every player plays the card they think will win the trick. But beware, as others will turn your tricks back on you.

In Tomb Trader, you and your friends join an archaeological excavation hoping to steal treasure. Each day, you sneak into the tomb to loot high-value items while watching out for the other players. You’ll have to be a swift and skilled negotiator in order to divvy up the loot before being caught, while making sure you get the best cuts for yourself!

Anansi and the Box of Stories is designed by Ken Maher with art by Stephanie Johnson. It plays 3–8 players in about half-an-hour. Tomb Trader is designed by Asher Stuhlman with art by Shaz Yong and is for 3–6 players, with matches clocking around 15 minutes. Both games have an MSRP of $25. Look for them in January 2017.

Ogre, Steve Jackson’s game of futuristic warfare, gets reinforcements

Ogre Reinforcements is the first expansion to Ogre Sixth Edition from SJGames. It comes with new units for both sides, eight scenarios (five of them designed by Steve Jackson himself), and new town overlays for the battle map.

In this box you get three Ogres for the Paneuropean faction, a complete set of basic armor and infantry, and two 3-D command posts for the Combine faction. Also, five new types of armored units for both sides for a total of 56 counters, 25 overlays, and a rulebook.

Look for Ogre Reinforcements at your friendly local games store. MSRP is $19.95.

Google Daydream adds more games and apps as part of the promise to reach 50 titles available before the end of the year

Besides video services such as HBO and NextVR, Daydream is adding new games this month. Already available: the free two-in-one game LEGO BrickHeadz Builder; Gunjack 2: End of Shift, the sequel to the popular turret shooter that takes place in the EVE Online universe; Layers of Fear: Solitude, in which you explore a Victorian-era haunted mansion; Wands, a multiplayer magic dueling game; Underworld Overlord, a tower defense where you’re the bad guy with a dungeon full of traps, treasures, and monsters.

They’re getting closer to the promise of a 50-app mark before the end of 2016. Later this month Draydream will add Netflix and Need for Speed No Limits VR, and app exclusive.

Daydream is a virtual reality platform released early in November that runs in the newest Google smartphone, the Pixel, but also in the Moto Z and Moto Z Force by Lenovo, the Axon 7 by ZTE, and eventually phones by other manufacturers that run the newest Android 7.1 Nougat.
