We produced this video after attending the Petersen Games Summit in January 2017.
Sandy Petersen got his start working on paper roleplaying games the early 1980s. His best-known early work was the cult game, Call of Cthulhu, which is still played worldwide. He also helped develop the original Arkham Horror!
In 1988, Sandy left paper games for the computer game world. He has worked for Microprose, id Software, and Ensemble Studios, where he was involved with Civilization, Doom, Quake, the Age of Empire series, and Halo Wars, among others.
His games have sold tens of millions of copies worldwide, and he has received several dozen awards from the game industry. The award he is most proud of is his 1990 Gaming Hall of Fame, which is given to only one person a year; chosen by the fan community.
In 2013 he received the second-ever “Howie” Lifetime Achievement trophy given for contributions to H. P. Lovecraft fandom. Also in 2013, he returned to the world of tabletop games releasing the famous Cthulhu Wars board game system.
